Hello! My name is Shayna and I work as the Assistant Director of Strategic Development and Training in the data department for a large labor union and also earned a Master of Science in Learning Design and Technology from the University of San Diego. I have experience in campaign management, organizing and running data programs for political candidates, issue campaigns and a range of mission driven organizations from clean energy to labor.
I believe education makes the greatest impact in the ability for all people to thrive and make valuable contributions to a more just society. When done well, education provides the foundation for people to succeed and at the heart of this is instructional design.
My design decisions come from a balance of 3 things: our understanding of how people learn, the goals an organization has for its learners, and what learners will authentically enjoy. Time is an incredibly valuable resource and when learners take time to engage with instruction I design, I want their experience to be valuable as well. That means leveraging the best applicable technology, resources and strategies to design impactful and meaningful learning experiences.
When I'm not nerding out with data or attending rallies, I spend my time crafting, cooking and going on adventures with my partner and 2 daughters.
